Ready ... Steady ... Rockwiz
Seriously, when Sharon's invitations turned up I was so excited! I love trivia games, I love costume parties and I love music. I also am a big fan of a birthday!
The games were so much fun and everyone put a fair amount of effort into their costumes.
I went as Karen O (rock goddess) and Pete channeled his 90's self. Amongst the guests were - Divo, Freddy Mercury, Cat Stevens, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, John Williamson, Bob Dylan, Slash, Adam Ant, Radiohead, Bon Scot and heaps more!
Apologies for the quality of photos but I only had my phone with me.
As I mentioned in the earlier post, this party was inspired by two of Australia's favourite musical trivia shows Rockwiz and Spick and Specks. Sharon titled it Shazwiz and Specks.
As soon as we turned up I knew it was going to be awesome. Chris and Sharon had hired equipment and set up the back yard and house so well. The deck was transformed with black curtains into a stage with a 3 piece 'Shazwiz Orchestra', lighting, player consoles and buzzers.
The lighting was spread through the yard and all the tables were the hard cases that music and av equipment are packed into.
We each received an envelope when we arrived and as the games began we found out that each envelope held a coloured card and each colour was to be a team. We were introduced to the rules by Chris (as Brian) and Jake (as Julia) was introduced.
(Chris also doubled as Dugald the human scoreboard later on).
Each team had a game card with a run down of the games to be played and we filled them out with our names. Each team had a person play each round while Sharon the birthday girl played every round.
There were four rounds and each round was themed with an era. There was a break between each round and food was provided. Again each food break was also themed to the corresponding era. Amazing.
60's & 70's - 'Kitchen Kitsch'
80's - 'Cafeteria Quality'
90's - 'Pretentious Provisions'

Rock it Out - Karen O style
Tweet
Tonight I'm off to a 40th birthday party. It's a costume party with a trivia night all in one and the theme is music. Awesome.
Here in Australia we have two music trivia T.V. shows in particular which this party is based on - ROCKWIZ and SPICKS AND SPECKS.
I love both these shows and I love a good dress up so I am really excited about it. I have decided to go as Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.
I have a black wig which is reminiscent of a bowl bob and the rocker chic outfit is pretty easy but not a lot of people know who Karen O is or who the YYY's are - I KNOW RIGHT!
So I decided to make a jacket I have look a bit like Karen's jacket that her designer friend Christian Joy made.
In case you haven't seen it ...
Now I used a really cool polyester fabric kind of like a disco sequin. I made a rough template and then cut out my design. I didn't want to wreck my jacket so I used sticky dot velcro to put it on the back. I didn't have enough sticky dots to do the front, but hopefully I'll get away with it.
I'll post some photo's later of the whole get up and more awesomeness from the party

Well ... this is a musical marriage ... all three ways
I am on my way to a costume party this weekend with a musical theme. I have decided to go dressed as Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Pete is still thinking. We couldn't agree or decide on a couple to go as. However after stumbling across this while I was researching Karen's jacket I think maybe I can convince him to go as Trent Reznor (N.I.N.) I adore Karen O (and the YYY's), have a very delicate spot in my heart for Trent (and NIN) and after hearing this ... Led Zeppelin in the mix? S-W-O-O-N ... Love, BIG Love.
The song is Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin, produced by Trent and sung by Karen. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (english version) isn't released in the US until December, so I'll have to wait to get the complete soundtrack until then, but knowing it's coming ... awesome
