Yoyo my day away ... my space today

After drafting some patterns for belts and making up the templates I didn't actually feel like cutting out today ... so after 8 loads of washing and other boring monotonous housework I managed to squeeze in some time on my day off to make some yoyo's.

I use these babies on headbands, hairclips, brooches, belts, anything I can stitch or glue them on to. I LOVE THEM. And they'll be all over stuff I'm making for the South Bank Young Designer Markets on Nov 1st and also the BrisStyle Markets on Dec 5th

Win some clips for your comment ...

After a hectic week of madly running around town tracking down my much needed fabric I finally located some and after dragging it all home I managed to outdo my record and waved my magic wand and made 45 dresses and skirts in 3 days. My machines are now in need of servicing!

The dresses have been gaining some interest and although I have been making and wearing them for 7 years it seems they have finally found a little piece of limelight.

On Sunday Pete helped me to run the stall and I am so glad he was there because we were on a corner (yay) but I needed to do a bit of rearranging to accomodate that but it was great. Then after we finished setting up it seemed our neighbours had decided not to show up. The events manager asked us if we would be able to spread out and fill the space which we managed to do quite easily (didn't realise I had so much stuff!)

We had a fun hectic crazy day ... even though one lady tried to bargain down a $95 silk dress, with hand embroidered flowers and beading to $30 which I had to refuse ... she seemed a little cross.

Most people seem to understand that the Young Designer Markets are about Independent QLD Designers, who (mostly) have not mass produced cheap articles.

I hand make with care and a bit of love everything I take with me. I source the fabrics or parts, I create and design the patterns or clips, I cut, pin and sew everything.

My prices are relative and fair, they are in fact quite cheap because I don't have the overheads associated with a store, but I cannot sell a dress for less than the fabric cost.

Let me know what you think and you could win these ...

To Market to market, and market ... Oh Yeah

What a cracker of a weekend!

I knew it would be a big day if the last market was anything to go by but I had NO IDEA how overwhelming the response would be.

It seems that Brisbane is REALLY keen to support local independent talent and art.

I was running late and when I set up I hadn't left myself very much time to have a wander around the market and visit many people but luckily I was next to two lovely ladies, Olivia from Scampsville (that's her sister in the pic!) and Sharon from My Girl Designs.

Here's my little corner!

Another favourite of mine is Sam from Jetta's Nest who crazily thought she wouldn't do so well and SOLD OUT! Good going Sam, you're stuff rocks and you should be PROUD! Beautiful stuff as always from Hayley of RE-read and Rebecca's embroidered buttons from Edward and Lily were beautiful. I am in love with Robyn from Hot Fudge's girls dresses. They are outstanding.
I loved seeing Christine's Hats over at Why Not Street and Shelleyberelli's stuff was awesome!

A massive thanks to ALL committee members of BrisStyle who put it all together and made this fabulous market happen!

I could go on all day but if you want to have a look yourself pop over to BrisStyle Blog and check the links down the bottom on the right for each member's blogs.

My little wristcuffs were fairly well received, and so were the skirts ... yay

So after an excellent day I packed all my stuff up and crazily went home to get ready for the Southbank Young Designer Markets.

All in all another fantastic day, it's great to see such a mix of people at a market. Young, kids, parents, the not so young, families ... soccer teams (hey Teneal)

Thanks to everyone who popped in to say Hi, browsed through my stuff, bought something or took a card.

It's really good to get out there and mix it up and meet people who are buying what I make.

Thank you especially to all the people who are coming back to buy more from me. Maybe I should make some loyalty discount cards!

It's Tomorrow! Are YOU ready? ....

Wow ... three weeks just flies when you have a tight schedule doesn't it!

I'm not going to write too much because I need to finish off all the little bits and pieces today and pack before heading to the bank for change for the markets and then a welcome home dinner for my brother in law (he's been in Europe the last 8 wks).

Last night I finished all actual sewing and was heading off for an early night (11.30pm) when the sounds of a small child vomiting invaded my thoughts of pleasant sleep. After changing sheets (3 times) and pyjamas (also 3 times) and washing a small shaky boy (also 3 times) we finally all managed to get some sleep at about 2am.

Poor kid

And of course he's right as rain now but I'm a shaky tired mess with heaps to do!

My dearest and I also had a few parties to go to last week, one of them was a friend of mine's engagement party and it had an Undead theme so we decided to make our own costumes and go as Jack and Sally from the Nightmare before Christmas! Awesome - here we are

I've been working like a freak in my sewing room ... trying to get stock levels up because I will be at 2 markets this weekend and with Pete being away I need to be more organised than ever!

Markets and More ... Southbank and HEX#000000

I'm so busy ... argggh

I am not going to get everything done so I have to work out what really want to finish and find some of those minutes that go missing every day so I can actually get the stuff done before Friday!

I'm working tomorrow so that gives me about 4 hours total tomorrow after I get home and sort the kids out, and some of Saturday to madly finish the dresses and skirts for Sundays Markets which will be here ... click here for a map to get there.

It's a specialty market for Kids, Mums and Bubs. There will be a few BrisStylettes there so come on down to Southbank on Sunday 22nd and grab a beautiful piece of creative fun from one of the many stall holders.

I want to make another batch of hairclips for Friday night (March 20th) which is going to be a bit of fun! I'll be having a mini stall at HEX#000000 ... which will be held at the Globe on Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley. Here's a map

BRISBANE'S GOTHIC UNDERGROUND CLUB

7 DJS | MARKET STALLS | AIR-CON NEW MUSIC | OLD FAVES | PRIZES

DOORS 8pm - $9.50

I know ... they are both a bit different aren't they :)

Having been a bit of HC goth in the old days HEx should be fun ... looking forward to it!

Anyway, I better get back to it, I'm putting together a 'look book' of all my goth clothes to take with me as Friday's gig is a small space and I wont be carting everything.

Adios ...
