Wednesday Blues ...

I've been feeling very nostalgic lately, that yearning for what was rather than living what is.

When the cuddles and kisses of my children are just sweet butterflies now they are asleep and I am here on my own ... my man is asleep and I am reminded in my solitary state (tinted with blue) of a time when I was alone ... or at least not living with my love.

A time of flatmates who may have been relative strangers that fast become family, laundromats and rusted clapped out cars, a time of freezing winters watching fuzzy tv's huddled under blankets and summers spent on the lawn at night drinking wine straight out of the bottle.

A time of music festivals and beer, small rooms in overcrowded houses, when walking was how you got places not exercise. A time of experimentation and no curfews ...

A time when nights were bright and days were for sleeping, a job was what you had to do to pay for stuff, a time when making friends with strangers was easy, a time of finding strangers sleeping on your lounge room floor when you wake up in the morning.

A time when the most money you ever had on you was on it's way to someone else for rent or bills, food was frugally and sometimes fungally found in the fridge, and if you were really hungry you went and visited mum. A time when craft wasn't a hobby it was a legitimate gift and op shopping wasn't just  cool, it was necessary.

I loved those days of cheese, bread and chateau de cardboard ... and I'm glad I can visit in memories

but I wouldn't want to give up this

Marking me today ... L-O-V-E

Tonight I had dinner with one of my closest and oldest friends ever.

As an army brat the types of friends you have fall into few categories, here today gone tomorrow or forever friends. As you get older some army kids manage to adapt to a life of the friend nomad. I managed ok by not trying too hard, a balance of holding in and letting in which can be quite tricky, especially as you enter your teens. By the time I was 16 I decided I had had enough moving and stayed behind when my parents got their next transfer ... admittedly I had to live with my grandma but it was worth it.

Tess is one of my forever friends, over the years we have meandered in and out of eachothers lives, going from irrationally obsessed BFF's to once a week catch ups and chill outs. I would trust her with my life. She is one of the true loves of my life. I met her when I was 14 and we were friends as soon as we spoke. We've been friends ever since. This is more than half our lives and after all we have seen and lived over the last 19 years we live about 4 blocks from eachother. Pretty cool.

Another forever friend is Pete ... 17 years I have known Pete. We've loved, hated, love-hated, and loved all that time.

So this got me thinking about love ... l-o-v-e ... and what it means to all of us, on all levels ... friends, lovers, family ...

Oh me oh my ...

I have been away for a long time haven't I!

I have been under the weather, I don't get sick a lot but when I do it's usually something huge that takes me down ...
this time it was a virus that led to laryngitis and a sinus infection escalating to my ol' friend Bronchitis.

Hasn't been a fun time and I am just getting back to my normal self now ... almost 3 weeks later.

Full on ... but it hasn't been all bad

I spent yesterday making some new clippies, and as I started to feel better I also made Sammy a embroidered Robot singlet (because we share a love for Robots at the moment and I love a win win situation!)
Erin scored a derby skirt ... she has started roller skating (and is GOOD) and as my knees are too dodgy for competition Derby it seems I can breed my own fresh meat! Excellent.

I got my new swallow kicks and I had a visit from my lovely UK Bestie ...

I bought some owl fabric and some stuff for refashioning, I also made a few new dresses ...

Oh and I got my Brown Owls pack in the post too! Yay thanks Pip!

I will post pics of all the above soon!

Day Trips are the best ...

Nothing better to while away the last days of the school holidays than a nice little jaunt to get a moment of seaside bliss ... we visited some friends for the afternoon and just hung out soaking up the sweet sea air and salty goodness of the ocean ... I love living so close to perfect beaches as well as secluded rainforests ...

The Appreciation of Others

I have a friend who is always ready to give others a hand ... even if it means setting herself back. She has helped me get my butt into gear and out there into the market scene to help launch my stuff.
She is always offering me a hand to do this or that, has suggestions for things that she thinks I'll be good at, keeps me informed with markets that are out there locally, and has even gone so far as to organise me being there if I can't find the time due to work and family committments to ring the market people in their available hours.
So to my wonderful friend Kirsten from Vintage Cherubs ... you (and yours) are cherubs to me!
